Colour Correcting
"Don't let your makeup be anything less than perfection"

Initially, when I saw people using very bold and pigmented colours in what appeared to be completely random parts of their face, I was confused. Now that I have a strong understand of what colour correcting is and have tried a couple of different colour correctors I am ready to share my knowledge with you! The idea of colour correcting is to cancel out unwanted colours on the skin, mainly on the face. Colour correcting mainly combats red skin, dark circles and dull skin. Excellent colour correctors can also be used to cancel out bruising and tattoos.

How to Apply

As colour corrects have a very strong pigment for the best application apply:

Primer

Colour correctors in the areas that need correcting - blend

A small amount of concealer over any areas that a colour corrector was used - blend

Foundation all over the face and continue to apply concealer as usual.

I don't like to tell people how they 'should' or 'shouldn't' apply their makeup, however, I wouldn't recommend wearing a colour corrector without concealer or foundation, as it maaaaaay look a littleeeee strange.

My Thoughts

I have fairly bad dark circles, so even though I would probably be considered a light to medium skin tone and would be recommended to use a peach colour corrector I used an orange colour corrector as it is a stronger pigment. I definitely think buying a peach or orange corrector is worth the money, together with concealer it really does eliminate dark circles! I haven't tired a green colour corrector as I don't have a huge amount of redness, however, I would definitely recommend it if you have acne or have a very rose tone skin colour and you'd prefer not to.

I personally don't see a strong need to own a yellow or purple colour corrector. I don't think I have ever seen anyone with "dull" skin. What does dull skin even look like? If it is a personal preference to have a brighter skin tone to enhance your highlight and contour, go ahead chicken! However, I don't think I would spend money to buy a purple or yellow colour corrector, nor is it absolutely necessary.

I have tried 3 different colour correcting products; Smashbox Colour Correcting Stick in Orange, Urban Decay Naked Skin Colour Correcting Fluid in Peach and Bobbie Brown Corrector in Light Peach (left to right). As you can probably see in the swatches the Bobbie Brown concealer is too light for me and that is because I actually purchased it for my mum, who has a lighter skin tone than I do. I like the peach corrector, as it is very light yet my favourite is the orange corrector.
