Real Hair Brushes vs Synthetic Hair Brushes
What is the difference
There is definitely a difference between how a real hair brush and a synthetic hair brush is made. Is there a difference in how they perform? I guess that is up to personal preference. I have broken down the difference between these 2 types of brushes.
Natural hair makeup brushes
-
Made from various animal fur and hair (sable, squirrel, mink, goat and fox)
-
Durable
-
Work well with powder products because they are loaded with texture; improves application
-
Move freely
-
Picks up product well
-
Blends product well
Synthetic makeup brushes
-
Man-made bristles (melted and spun - nylon)
-
Don’t have a cuticle -great with liquid or cream products; because they don’t hold product
-
Synthetic bristles tend to gravitate towards one another - perfect for precision application
-
Can be sanitized with alcohol without damaging the hair

Can real hair brushes be classified as cruelty-free?
The term cruelty-free states that a brand does not test products on an animal. A brand can be labelled cruelty-free if they sell real hair brushes as the brushes are not tested on animals. Some may see the method of obtaining animal hairs, equally as cruel as testing beauty products on animals. It is a personal decision to choose whether or not to purchases a brush made from animal hairs.
